ܘܚܙܘ ܕܟܡܐ ܣܓܝ ܚܘܒܗ ܕܐܒܐ ܠܘܬܢ ܕܒܢܝܐ ܩܪܢ ܐܦ ܥܒܕܢ ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܥܠܡܐ ܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܠܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܦܠܐ ܠܗ ܝܕܥ
wkhzw dkm' sgy khwbh d'b' lwthn dbny' qrn 'p ebdn mTl hn' elm' l' yde ln mTl d'pl' lh yde
See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.

ܚܒܝܒܝ ܗܫܐ ܒܢܘܗܝ ܚܢܢ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܬܓܠܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܗܫܐ ܡܢܐ ܥܬܝܕܝܢܢ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܝܢ ܕܡܐ ܕܐܬܓܠܝ ܒܕܡܘܬܗ ܗܘܝܢܢ ܘܚܙܝܢܢ ܠܗ ܐܝܟ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ
khbyby hsh' bnwhy khnn d'lh' wl' 'thgly edm' lhsh' mn' ethydynn dnhw' ydeynn dyn dm' d'thgly bdmwthh hwynn wkhzynn lh 'yk mdm d'ythwhy
Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. But we know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is.

ܘܟܠ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܗܢܐ ܣܒܪܐ ܡܕܟܐ ܢܦܫܗ ܐܝܟ ܕܗܘ ܕܟܐ ܗܘ

Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.

ܡܢ ܕܝܢ ܕܥܒܕ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܥܘܠܐ ܣܥܪ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܓܝܪ ܟܠܗ ܥܘܠܐ ܗܝ
mn dyn debd khTyth' ewl' ser khTyth' gyr klh ewl' hy
Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.

ܘܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܗܘ ܕܐܬܓܠܝ ܕܢܣܒ ܚܛܗܝܢ ܘܚܛܝܬܐ ܒܗ ܠܝܬ
wydeyn 'nthwn dhw d'thgly dnsb khThyn wkhTyth' bh lyth
You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and in him is no sin.

ܘܟܠ ܕܒܗ ܡܩܘܐ ܠܐ ܚܛܐ ܘܟܠ ܕܚܛܐ ܠܐ ܚܙܝܗܝ ܘܠܐ ܝܕܥܗ

Whoever remains in him doesn’t sin. Whoever sins hasn’t seen him and doesn’t know him.

ܒܢܝ ܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܢܛܥܝܟܘܢ ܗܘ ܕܥܒܕ ܙܕܝܩܘܬܐ ܙܕܝܩܐ ܗܘ ܐܝܟ ܕܐܦ ܗܘ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܙܕܝܩܐ
bny l' 'nsh nTeykwn hw debd zdyqwth' zdyq' hw 'yk d'p hw mshykh' 'ythwhy zdyq'
Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

ܗܘ ܕܣܥܪ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܡܢ ܣܛܢܐ ܗܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܢ ܪܫܝܬܐ ܗܘ ܣܛܢܐ ܚܛܝܐ ܗܘ ܘܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܐܬܚܙܝ ܒܪܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܕܢܫܪܐ ܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܕܣܛܢܐ
hw dser khTyth' mn sTn' hw mTl dmn rshyth' hw sTn' khTy' hw wmTl hn' 'thkhzy brh d'lh' dnshr' ebdwhy dsTn'
He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed: that he might destroy the works of the devil.

ܟܠ ܕܐܬܝܠܕ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܠܐ ܥܒܕ ܡܛܠ ܕܙܪܥܗ ܒܗ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܘܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܠܡܚܛܐ ܕܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܐܬܝܠܕ

Whoever is born of God doesn’t commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he can’t sin, because he is born of God.

ܒܗܕܐ ܡܬܦܪܫܝܢ ܒܢܘܗܝ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܡܢ ܒܢܘܗܝ ܕܣܛܢܐ ܟܠ ܕܠܐ ܥܒܕ ܙܕܝܩܘܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܡܚܒ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܠܝܬܘܗܝ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ
bhd' mthprshyn bnwhy d'lh' mn bnwhy dsTn' kl dl' ebd zdyqwth' wl' mkhb l'khwhy lythwhy mn 'lh'
In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn’t do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn’t love his brother.

ܕܗܢܘ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܕܫܡܥܬܘܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ ܕܬܚܒܘܢ ܚܕ ܠܚܕ
dhnw pwqdn' dshmethwn mn qdym dthkhbwn khd lkhd
For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another;

ܠܘ ܐܝܟ ܩܐܝܢ ܗܘ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܒܝܫܐ ܘܩܛܠ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܘܡܛܠ ܡܢܐ ܩܛܠܗ ܐܠܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܒܝܫܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܘܕܐܚܘܗܝ ܙܕܝܩܝܢ
lw 'yk q'yn hw d'ythwhy hw' mn bysh' wqTl l'khwhy wmTl mn' qTlh 'l' mTl dbyshyn hww ebdwhy wd'khwhy zdyqyn
unlike Cain, who was of the evil one, and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s righteous.

ܘܠܐ ܬܬܕܡܪܘܢ ܐܚܝ ܐܢ ܣܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܥܠܡܐ
wl' ththdmrwn 'khy 'n sn' lkwn elm'
Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.

ܚܢܢ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܫܢܝܢܢ ܡܢ ܡܘܬܐ ܠܚܝܐ ܒܗܕܐ ܕܡܚܒܝܢܢ ܠܐܚܝܢ ܗܘ ܕܠܐ ܡܚܒ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܡܩܘܐ ܒܡܘܬܐ
khnn ydeynn dshnynn mn mwth' lkhy' bhd' dmkhbynn l'khyn hw dl' mkhb l'khwhy mqw' bmwth'
We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death.

ܟܠ ܓܝܪ ܕܣܢܐ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܩܛܠ ܐܢܫܐ ܗܘ ܘܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܟܠ ܕܩܛܠ ܐܢܫܐ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚܝܢ ܡܩܘܝܢ ܒܗ ܚܝܐ ܕܠܥܠܡ
kl gyr dsn' l'khwhy qTl 'nsh' hw wydeyn 'nthwn dkl dqTl 'nsh' l' mshkkhyn mqwyn bh khy' dlelm
Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.

ܒܗܕܐ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܚܘܒܗ ܕܠܘܬܢ ܕܗܘ ܝܗܒ ܢܦܫܗ ܚܠܦܝܢ ܘܐܦ ܚܢܢ ܙܕܩ ܠܢ ܕܥܠ ܐܦܝ ܐܚܝܢ ܢܬܠ ܢܦܫܬܢ
bhd' ydeynn khwbh dlwthn dhw yhb npshh khlpyn w'p khnn zdq ln del 'py 'khyn nthl npshthn
By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

ܘܐܝܢܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܩܢܝܢܐ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܘܢܚܙܐ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܕܣܢܝܩ ܘܢܐܚܘܕ ܪܚܡܘܗܝ ܡܢܗ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܐܝܬ ܒܗ ܚܘܒܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ
w'yn' d'yth lh qnyn' delm' wnkhz' l'khwhy dsnyq wn'khwd rkhmwhy mnh 'ykn' 'yth bh khwbh d'lh'
But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and closes his heart of compassion against him, how does God’s love remain in him?

ܒܢܝ ܠܐ ܢܚܒ ܚܕ ܠܚܕ ܒܡܠܐ ܘܒܠܫܢܐ ܐܠܐ ܒܥܒܕܐ ܘܒܫܪܪܐ
bny l' nkhb khd lkhd bml' wblshn' 'l' bebd' wbshrr'
My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.

ܘܒܗܕܐ ܡܫܬܘܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܡܢ ܫܪܪܐ ܐܝܬܝܢ ܘܩܕܡ ܕܢܐܬܐ ܗܘ ܡܦܝܣܝܢܢ ܠܒܢ
wbhd' mshthwdeynn dmn shrr' 'ythyn wqdm dn'th' hw mpysynn lbn
And by this we know that we are of the truth, and persuade our hearts before him,

ܕܐܢ ܗܘ ܠܒܢ ܒܣܪ ܠܢ ܟܡܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܪܒ ܡܢ ܠܒܢ ܘܝܕܥ ܟܠܡܕܡ
d'n hw lbn bsr ln km' 'lh' drb mn lbn wyde klmdm
because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

ܚܒܝܒܝ ܐܢ ܠܒܢ ܠܐ ܒܣܪ ܠܢ ܓܠܝܢ ܐܢܝܢ ܐܦܝܢ ܩܕܡ ܐܠܗܐ
khbyby 'n lbn l' bsr ln glyn 'nyn 'pyn qdm 'lh'
Beloved, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have boldness toward God;

ܘܟܠܡܕܡ ܕܫܐܠܝܢܢ ܢܣܒܝܢܢ ܡܢܗ ܡܛܠ ܕܢܛܪܝܢܢ ܦܘܩܕܢܘܗܝ ܘܫܦܝܪܬܐ ܣܥܪܝܢܢ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ
wklmdm dsh'lynn nsbynn mnh mTl dnTrynn pwqdnwhy wshpyrth' serynn qdmwhy
and whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.

ܘܗܢܐ ܗܘ ܦܘܩܕܢܗ ܕܢܗܝܡܢ ܒܫܡܐ ܕܒܪܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܘܢܚܒ ܚܕ ܠܚܕ ܐܝܟ ܕܦܩܕܢ
whn' hw pwqdnh dnhymn bshm' dbrh yshwe mshykh' wnkhb khd lkhd 'yk dpqdn
This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.

ܘܐܝܢܐ ܕܢܛܪ ܦܘܩܕܢܘܗܝ ܒܗ ܡܬܢܛܪ ܘܗܘ ܫܪܐ ܒܗ ܘܒܗܕܐ ܡܣܬܟܠܝܢܢ ܕܫܪܐ ܒܢ ܡܢ ܪܘܚܗ ܗܝ ܕܝܗܒ ܠܢ
w'yn' dnTr pwqdnwhy bh mthnTr whw shr' bh wbhd' msthklynn dshr' bn mn rwkhh hy dyhb ln
He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
